New models feature fast motion picture playback, stereo speakers,
and new adjustable stand for multimedia-based content
Upplands Väsby, Sweden, January 21, 2005 – Eizo Nanao Corporation (“EIZO”) today introduced two new LCD monitors for its newly revamped MultiEdge series. The 19-inch FlexScan L778 and 17-inch FlexScan L578 feature fast response times, enhanced audio capabilities, and an original ergonomic stand to address the growing need for LCD monitors designed for multimedia applications such as gaming, DVD viewing, and video editing.
The FlexScan L778 and L578 come with EIZO’s new ArcSwing 2 stand which as its name implies offers an arc-shaped range of movement. The screen can be positioned up high near eye level or lowered at an angle akin to reading a book for a more natural viewing posture. The height adjustment range is 104 mm, tilt 65°, and swivel 172°.
Both models have a 1280 × 1024 native resolution and leading specifications such as H/V viewing angles of 178°, brightness of 250 cd/m², and contrast ratio of 1000:1. They also come with DVI-D 24 pin and D-sub mini 15 pin input connectors to accept both analog and digital signals.
To enhance the monitors’ moving image playback capabilities, the FlexScan L778 and L578 include an overdrive circuit. Used with many LCD TVs, an overdrive circuit vastly improves the LCD panel’s response time for changing between midtones or gray levels, which is necessary to display color images without blurring. With the overdrive circuit, midtone response time is now an extremely fast 12 ms, while the black-white-black response time most users are familiar with is also an impressive 16 ms.
For sharper and more vivid moving and still images, the FlexScan L778 and L578 include a C-Booster function, which raises contrast levels and enhances colors. The C-Booster enhances the contrast in bright scenes for brighter colors and in dark scenes for darker colors.
As with previous MultiEdge series models, the FlexScan L778 and L578 come with dual integrated speakers, but the audio capabilities have been greatly enhanced to give true stereo sound while keeping speaker size compact. Both models incorporate SRS WOW technology often used with LCD TVs and car stereo systems. SRS WOW consists of three types of technology: SRS technology which restores spatial information lost in the recording process for a 3D sound, TruBass technology which delivers rich bass sounds, and FOCUS technology which improves clarity in high frequencies and produces a tall and wide sound field.
EIZO’s BrightRegulator function ensures ideal screen brightness levels under any lighting condition. A sensor on the front bezel takes a reading of the ambient brightness and then signals the backlight to adjust the screen brightness accordingly. In a brightly lit room, BrightRegulator increases the screen’s brightness level, whereas in a dimly lit room it will decrease the brightness, thereby saving energy and reducing eye fatigue. BrightRegulator can be disabled by pressing a button on the front panel for users who prefer a constant brightness level regardless of ambient lighting.
For comfortable viewing of any type of content from detailed text documents to color-rich images, both monitors comes equipped with EIZO’s Fine Contrast function which offers five imaging modes: Text, Picture, Movie, Custom, and sRGB. Each mode has its own settings for image parameters such as color temperature, gamma, and brightness. Navigating between the modes is done simply by pressing a button on the front panel. For further convenience, a Fine Contrast mode can be assigned to any application with the bundled ScreenManager® Pro for LCD utility software¹. When the application is opened, the screen automatically changes to its assigned mode.
· A 10-bit gamma correction function automatically converts 8-bit data (256 gradations) received from the computer to 10-bit (1,021 gradations) and then reassigns this data back to 8-bits with the ideal gamma values, producing smooth color gradations throughout an image.
· High speed USB hub with one upstream and two downstream ports.
· Compliance with TCO’99 as well as the EIZO Eco Products 2004 in-house label signifying it meets several internal requirements such as the use of lead-free solder and chrome-free steel plates.
· Industry-leading five-year warranty2.
· Wide variety of accessories (sold separately) including panel protectors, client management software, and mounting arms and stands. Please see www.eizo.com/products/accessories/.
The FlexScan L778 and L578 will be available by the end of February, 2005. The cabinet comes in a choice of silver or black.
